Mini Mahjer Is Coming to Camp This Summer

Every summer, there are a few activities that quietly become the thing everyone wants to do.

Not because they’re loud or overproduced, but because they just work.

This summer, one of those is Mini Mahjer.

Why I’m Excited About This

Mahjong is having a moment right now. It’s social, it’s strategic, and people love it.

But what makes Mini Mahjer different is that it actually translates to camp.

This isn’t something that only works if one person at the table knows how to play.

What I love about it is:

  • Kids who know how to play can jump right in

  • Kids who don’t know how to play can learn quickly

  • Everyone can sit down together and be part of the same game

That is not easy to pull off with most games like this.

It Becomes a Social Activity Fast

This is where it really stands out.

You start with a few kids learning, and then it spreads.

They teach each other. They sit down together during bunk time.It becomes something they choose to do, not something they’re told to do.

And that’s when you know you have something good.

Easy for Staff, Which Matters

If something is complicated to explain or run, it just doesn’t stick at camp.

This doesn’t have that problem.

It’s structured in a way that makes it really simple for staff to pick up and run with. There’s clear guidance built in, and even a video that walks counselors through how to run it.

So instead of hesitation, you get confidence right away.

And that changes everything in terms of adoption.

Works Across So Many Moments at Camp

This isn’t a one slot activity.

It fits naturally into:

  • Bunk time

  • Rainy days

  • Free periods

  • Quiet afternoon options

  • Evening wind down

It gives you something that feels intentional without needing a big setup.

What I Like Most

It meets campers where they are.

Some want to compete. Some want to figure something out. Some just want to sit with friends and do something together.

This hits all of that.

And it does it in a way that builds focus and connection without forcing it.

The Bottom Line

There are a lot of products that look good on paper.

This is one I can actually see working in a bunk, on a rainy day, or in a program block without a lot of lift.

It’s simple.

It’s social.

And it’s something campers will keep coming back to.
