Camp Ready: Emergency Preparedness Designed Specifically for Camps

When an emergency happens at camp, professional responders may already be on their way. But what happens in the minutes before they arrive?

That question is at the heart of Camp Ready Emergency Solutions.

Camp Ready founder Jeff Josephson brings more than 30 years of volunteer firefighting experience together with decades of firsthand experience in the summer camp world. He has taken that professional expertise and applied it specifically to camps, developing a practical approach to help camps become better prepared for fire and other major emergencies.

The goal is not to turn camp staff into professional emergency responders.

It is to help camps have practical systems, appropriate equipment, clear procedures and trained people in place so they are better prepared to respond when something happens.

A Camp Ready Package Built From Experience

Rather than asking camps to piece together emergency preparedness solutions on their own, Jeff has brought his professional experience into developing a Camp Ready package specifically for the camp environment.

It combines the areas he believes can make a meaningful difference in a camp's preparedness, including professional consultation, property assessment, planning, equipment solutions, implementation and training.

The exact needs will not be the same for every camp.

A camp in Maine may have very different resources and challenges than a camp in Pennsylvania. One camp may have significant access to water while another does not. Properties, buildings, staffing, local emergency resources and response times can all vary.

That is why the Camp Ready approach begins with understanding the individual camp.

More Than Equipment

One of the most important distinctions is that Camp Ready is not simply an equipment company. Jeff can help camps identify practical equipment and water solutions that may strengthen their preparedness, but the equipment is part of a much bigger picture. His professional expertise goes into determining what makes sense, where it makes sense and how it fits into the camp's overall preparedness. That may include specialized water and fire readiness equipment, communication considerations, staff preparedness, training or other solutions appropriate for the property. The goal is not to add equipment for the sake of adding equipment. It is to create a system that a camp can realistically use.

Simple Solutions Staff Can Handle

Camp Ready was developed with another important reality in mind: camp staff.

Camps do not have unlimited time to train seasonal employees on complicated emergency systems. Jeff's approach emphasizes practical solutions that can be understood, implemented and trained appropriately. Some staff may simply need to understand their role in keeping campers safe and accounted for. Leadership and designated personnel may receive additional training and responsibilities. The objective is clarity rather than complexity.

The right people. The right preparation. The right tools.

Fire Safety AND Emergency Preparedness

Fire readiness is an important part of Camp Ready, but it is not the entire picture.

Camps need to think about their ability to respond to many types of emergencies, including severe weather, missing campers, significant injuries and other serious events. Jeff's experience allows him to look at the camp through the eyes of an emergency professional while also understanding the realities of actually operating a summer camp. That combination is what drives the Camp Ready approach.

Start With Your Camp

Camp Shopping Channel is now helping camps connect with Camp Ready through onsite property visits and virtual consultations. An onsite visit allows Jeff to see the property, understand the camp's existing preparedness and begin identifying solutions that make sense for that particular operation. Camps can also begin with a virtual consultation to discuss their needs, concerns and current preparedness. You do not have to know what equipment you need or exactly what you should be changing before you reach out. That is where Jeff's expertise comes in. He has already done the work of bringing together his emergency response experience, knowledge of camps and practical preparedness solutions into the Camp Ready approach. Now the conversation becomes:
